1. Online application form

Applicants must complete the application form through the NIU International Students Admissions Application System:

applyisa.niu.edu.tw

2. Graduation certificate of Your Highest

Qualification (needs to be verified by an Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission stationed abroad)

(1) First year Bachelor, Master and PhD International Students:

●NIU accepts diplomas written in English or Chinese. If your diploma was written in another language (not Chinese or English), it should be accompanied by an English or Chinese translation. Applicants who are in the process of completing their studies should submit a letter from their school/university/institute clearly stating the anticipated graduation date and degree.

●Graduation certificates must be authenticated by a Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission. Admitted students that are unable to get their diplomas verified before submitting their application should submit their original authenticated diploma while checking in for registration at NIU.

(2) Transfer Students:

To apply as a transfer international student to continue your bachelor’s degree, if your current university is in Taiwan, please submit official Study Proof. For universities outside Taiwan, the Study Proof should be authenticated by a Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission. Admitted students who could not get verification before submitting their application should submit their original authenticated Study Proof while checking in for registration at NIU.

3. Academic Transcript of Your Highest Qualification (needs to be verified by an Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission stationed abroad)

(1) Transcripts should include grades of every semester. If it is in your another language (not Chinese or English), it should be accompanied by an English or Chinese translation. In addition, the grading system must also be included.

●Applicants for Bachelor Programs: Require transcripts of their high school degree.

Applicants for Master Programs: Require transcripts of their bachelor’s degree.

Applicants for Doctor Programs: Require transcripts of their master’s degree.

●Transfer Students for Bachelor Programs: Require transcripts of their current bachelor’s degree.

(2) Transcripts issued by universities outside Taiwan must be authenticated by a Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission. Admitted students who could not get verification before submitting their application must submit their original notarized transcript while checking in for registration at NIU. For applicants holding a university degree issued by universities or educational institution in Taiwan, the academic transcripts do not need to be verified by a Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission.

4. Copy of passport

Provide a copy of your passport to verify your nationality.

5. Certificate for Chinese or English Proficiency

Please provide a Certificate for Chinese or English Proficiency Test based on “Program-Specific Requirements”.

● For programs that have ALL English-taught courses: Applicants whose native language is not English should have at least CEFR B1 level or above or an equivalent English Proficiency Test.

Equivalent English Proficiency Tests are such as TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, etc., but do not include an applicant’s certificate from one’s school or course.

● For programs that have ALL Chinese-taught courses or programs that are mainly Chinese-taught courses, with partially English-taught courses: Applicants whose native language is not Chinese should have at least TOCFL A2 level or above or an equivalent Chinese Proficiency Test.

Equivalent Chinese Proficiency Tests are such as TOCFL, ACTFL, TBCL, etc., but do not include an applicant’s certificate from one’s school or course.

6. A Study plan in Chinese or in English

Please write a brief essay of no more than 3 pages. In this study plan, applicants are encouraged to give their motivation for choosing NIU and their department. Graduate students, may present possible future contributions and research interests.

7. Financial certificate

All applicants are required to provide financial proof that shows financial sustainability for studying in Taiwan. The bank deposit proof of personal savings should have a minimum of USD$3,000. Please be noted that the date on the financial proof must be at least within three months of the first day of online application. If your means of financial support is through scholarship, please provide proof of scholarship (e.g., “Taiwan Scholarship”).

8. Two recommendation letters

Each applicant should submit 2 recommendation letters. NIU uses an online recommendation letter system and referees can write recommendation letters on our system. Preferably referees are faculty members who can evaluate applicants’ academic qualifications and research potential.

Print out the declaration form, sign at the bottom of the form after reading it and then upload it.

Important Notes for Application

If admitted students are found submitting forged, fabricated, or altered papers for the purpose of their NIU application, they shall have their admission cancelled and/or enrollment revoked. Any request of any certificate pertaining to study will be denied. If any of the aforementioned circumstances occur and the student has already graduated, they will be forced to hand in their degree / graduation certificate. Their qualification and graduation status will also be revoked.

 

Selection Method

NIU’s selection method attaches great importance to applicants’ written applications. Final list of admission will be decided by the NIU International Students Admission Committee based on the screening results of each department. In addition to the accepted students, a number of provisionally admitted students may be put on a waiting list. However, if minimum requirements are not met, departments or institutes have the right to not grant any admissions.
