B. What you need before you apply

  1. Academic Transcript of Your Highest Qualification
    • NIU accepts diplomas written in English or Chinese. If your diploma was written in another language (not Chinese or English), it should be accompanied by an English or Chinese translation.
    • Transcripts issued by universities outside Taiwan must be authenticated by a Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission.
    • Admitted students who could not get verification before submitting their application must submit their original notarized transcript while checking in for registration at NIU. 
  2. Graduation Certificate
    • Graduation certificates must be authenticated by a Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission.
    • Admitted students that are unable to get their diplomas verified before submitting their application should submit their original authenticated diploma while checking in for registration at NIU.

  4. Certificate for Chinese or English Proficiency

    • To apply as a transfer international student to continue your bachelor’s degree, if your current university is in Taiwan, please submit official Study Proof.
    • For universities outside Taiwan, the certificate should be authenticated by a Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission.
    • Admitted students who could not get verification before submitting their application should submit their original authenticated Study Proof while checking in for registration at NIU.
  5. Academic Personal Statement
    • How to Write Academic Personal Statement:
      If you would like to submit a personal statement, your submission should be approximately 500 words in length and address the contributions you are prepared to make to our community, both academically and otherwise.
      Specifically, your statement should:
      • Identify any circumstances that affected your high school academic performance, if applicable.
      • Make clear your commitment to academic success in college, acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses and your plans to utilize available resources.
      • Articulate your readiness to engage productively in our campus community outside the classroom.
  6. Proof of Financial Resources
    • All applicants are required to provide Declaration of Finances to show financial sustainability for studying in Taiwan. The bank deposit proof of personal savings should have a minimum of USD$3,000.
    • Please be noted that the date on the financial proof must be at least within three months of the first day of online application. If your means of financial support is through scholarship, please provide proof of scholarship (e.g., “Taiwan Scholarship”).
  7. Two Recommendation Letters
    • Each applicant should submit 2 recommendation letters. NIU uses an online recommendation letter system and referees can write recommendation letters on our system.
    • Preferably referees are faculty members who can evaluate applicants’ academic qualifications and research potential.

D. Admitted Students

D1. Submit Enrollment Registration Form

You will get the form right after you are accepted from NIU, and please submit the it in time to reply your acceptance confirmation.

D2. Submit Insurance Declaration

Learn About Health Insurance:

  1. International students need to present proof of a medical and injury insurance coverage which is valid for at least 6 months from the date the student enters Taiwan.
  2. Overseas insurance should be authenticated by a Taiwan Overseas Mission of their home country or nearest office.
  3. International students who have lived in Taiwan for more than 6 months can apply for Taiwan’s National Health Insurance.

D3. Finalize Your Admission File

  1. Graduation certificates must be authenticated by a Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission. Admitted students that are unable to get their diplomas verified before submitting their application should submit their original authenticated diploma while checking in for registration at NIU.
  2. To apply as a transfer international student to continue your bachelor’s degree, if your current university is in Taiwan, please submit official Study Proof. For universities outside Taiwan, the Study Proof should be authenticated by a Taiwan Overseas Embassy or Mission. Admitted students who could not get verification before submitting their application should submit their original authenticated Study Proof while checking in for registration at NIU.
